Modern Sailing Academy

Since 1983, Modern Sailing School & Club has been introducing people to sailing from our headquarters in Sausalito, California. Even if you have never set foot on a boat, we can teach you everything you need to know to build a strong foundation in this rewarding sport.

MSSC wants to make your learning experience as safe and enjoyable as possible. Unlike at other schools, all of our classes are taught on 30 to 32 foot keelboats with wheel (not tiller) steering, inboard diesels, and roller furling jibs.

We also have the most experienced instructors on the Bay. Our instructors hold US Coast Guard 50 Ton (or greater) Master's Licenses, representing decades of sailing experience. They are former America's Cup campaigners, world cruisers, and Coast Guard commanders. Our high standards have earned us accolades in the sailing community, including the American Sailing Association's 2004 School of the Year award.
